Harry Colebourn是來自加拿大緬尼托巴省首府溫尼伯Winnipeg的年輕獸醫，一次大戰期間擔任軍中獸醫照料馬匹，途中救了一隻被捕獵的小熊，取名為Winnie(取自家鄉Winnipeg)。Winnie跟著士兵們搭船從加拿大到英國，加入軍旅生活，在緊張的軍旅途中有這麼一隻活潑又天真的小熊相伴，對人類而言很能舒緩緊繃的情緒。直到軍隊必須前往更遙遠的法國前線，為了Winnie的安全Harry決定將牠送離戰區，到倫敦動物園展開新生活。也意味著兩人的離別...

一個故事的結束，也是另一個新故事的開始；一位名叫Christopher的小男孩最愛到動物園拜訪Winnie，也將牠的玩具熊命名為Winnie。Christopher的爸爸就是英國知名作家艾倫·亞歷山大·米恩(A. A. Milne)，寫下了維尼與兒子的故事“Winnie the Pooh”(1926)，從此Winnie-the-Pooh成為英國兒童文學史上，不，應該說是全世界最受歡迎的熊！
