這幾天國內外媒體大幅報導獲提名今年諾貝爾和平獎的瑞典16歲環保少女 Greta Thunberg 在聯合國發表演說，嚴詞抨擊各國領袖在氣候變化問題上「出賣」年輕人。台灣媒體多把 Greta Thunberg 譯為「桑伯格」，但英美媒體多照瑞典語唸為「童貝芮」。其實瑞典語及大部分歐洲語言裡並沒有 /θ/ 的音，‘th’ 裡的 ‘h’ 純係裝飾而已，就像許多英美人名或地名 Thomas, Thames 的 ‘Th’ 是發 /t/ 音，不唸 /θ/。
“But Swedish has no ‘th’ sounds (and in this it is like the majority of European languages), so the ‘h’ is purely decorative – as it is quite often in English names as well: Thames, Thomas, Trentham, immediately come to mind.”
