Jacques Derrida 雅克‧德里達(又譯雅各‧德希達) 於1930年7月15日出生在法屬阿爾及利亞(Algeia)的猶太裔家庭，以「解構」（deconstruction）之概念、重視文本本身的論述、對符號（如文字）指涉意義的討論而享有盛名。

雅克‧德里達哲學生涯早期關注的焦點是現象學，尤其是艾德蒙‧胡塞爾(Edmund Husserl)，結果便以此為題，在1953-54 年發表《胡賽爾哲學中的起源問題》(The Problem of Genesis in Husserl'sPhilosophy)作為學位論文，獲得高等專業學術文憑。1962年德里達翻譯了胡塞爾的《幾何學起源》(Origin of Geometry)，他在長達150頁的導論中特別強調語言在胡塞爾理論中的重要性，後來許多想法的原型皆已出現於此。

 1966年，德里達和巴特 (Roland Barthes)與拉岡 (Jacques Lacan)等法國學者參加了於約翰霍普金斯大學舉行的一場劃時代學術會議—「批評的語言與人的科學」(The Languages of Criticism and the Sciences of Man)。德里達在這場會議中所發表的論文—〈人文科學論述中的結構、符號與遊戲〉（""Structure, Sign, and Play in the Discourse of the Human Sciences""）—可視為對結構主義所作的引申，但實質上卻也對結構主義提出嚴厲批判，自此解構主義蓬勃發展，勢不可擋。德里達隔年一口氣出版了三本書：《言說與現象》（Speech and Phenomena）、《論文字學》（Of Grammatology）、《寫作與差異》（Writing and Difference），聲望更是如日中天。爾後德希達文思泉湧，著作越來越豐富，一年甚至超過一本以上，領域也多有涉獵，大多以文字、符號為主，也包含一些政治方面較具爭議性的作品。

1975年德里達受邀到耶魯大學(Yale University)短期講學，與耶魯學派(Paul de Man, J. Hillis Miller, Geoffrey Hartman, and Harold Bloom)多所交流，後來又陸續到美國多所大學授課，促使解構主義在美國成為顯學，影響深遠。
